Just finished chapter 3 this morning. Glad I had it already in my Peterson collection. Winn, when are you going to revise this book with the Message for the Psalms?

A friend once sent me Eugene Peterson's talk on T.S. Eliot's Ash Wednesday (to care and not to care), which is the inspiration behind my own substack. My journey of learning how to engage with life and the world has (and continues to be) essentially learning how to pray. How to care.

Maybe Mother Theresa was onto something when she said, "The fruit of silence is prayer, the fruit of prayer is faith, the fruit of faith is love, the fruit of love is service, the fruit of service is peace."

It's one of my favorite of his essays.

Especially timely at this time, Winn. Not just for the US election but all the conflicts around the world. Prayer can influence, change, and end these conflicts. Because God!

“Prayer is our primal speech, the deep language shaping our existence. Prayer is how we describe a life being consumed by God’s fire. Prayer is how a human story becomes ever more human, ever more awake, ever more moved by pain and joy, pleasure and longing.”

Yesss. Thank you.
